Chapter 14
Amelia
Itâs been a week since the AA meeting, and every day that has passed, Iâve finished off a bottle of alcohol. Whether it was red or white wine, scotch or whiskey. I just needed to drown my sorrows. After hearing about Jaydinâs family, it brought back too many memories⦠some that I would rather forget.
Iâm sitting at home, slowly fading into being drunk, and I hear the front door open. Shit. Itâs Shaylie.
âAmelia!â I bet sheâs taken one look at the kitchen counter⦠at all the empty bottles of alcohol. This isnât going to be pretty.
âMmm bad week,â I mumble to her.
âWhat have you done?â She moves the bottles and counts them.
âSorry.â But I know Iâm actually not.
âThatâs it. Iâm going to pack you a bag and Iâm taking you back to rehab. This canât keep happening, Amelia. I donât know what to do with you.â She heads off into my room and gathers a bag together.
She comes back with the duffle in hand.
âGet off that sorry ass couch and get in the car.â She is waiting by the door.
âWe canât be leaving now.â I take another sip of the bottle of whatever Iâm drinking. Numb to the fact that Shaylie is now dragging me out by my arm.
âOh yes, we are. I am not losing you.â I get pushed into the car, I look down at my hands and the bottle is gone. She takes it from me and throws it into the trash can.
âI was drinking that!â I frown at the wasted liquor.
âI donât want to hear another word from you tonight, Amelia. God, you have made me so angry.â I can feel the tension building between us. If I donât think about my next words, I could lose Shaylie⦠for good.
âIâm sorry, but I needed it.â Damn it.
She looks over to me, and then I know Iâve fucked it up.
We continue to drive to the rehab centre, and before I even know it, we arrive.
I must have fallen asleep to make the ride go quicker, and now Iâm more sober then when I got into the car.
âGet out,â Shaylie orders me.
I exit the car and she hands me my bag. Iâm not sure what clothes she packed; at this point I donât really care.
âIâll be in touch with the coordinator.â She gets back in the car and drives off.
Wow.
I walk up the steps to the centre and a woman greets me. I remember her from last time, she is new and her name is Mailey.
âItâs good to see you again, Amelia. Iâm glad you came back, follow me to your room.â I think itâs like ten oâclock at night, so no one should be really up. I walk past the main gathering room, the kitchen, and we walk down the hallway to the bedrooms. Most of the rooms are full but there is mine. Still the same room I use, I wonder if any other patients use it while Iâm not here.
âHave a good sleep tonight, Amelia.
